Other Research
Current research Lines in the laboratory. As well as our work on phosphorus chemistry, 2 other successful research lines are running at present in my laboratory:
· Asymmetric Grignard Synthesis of Tertiary Alcohols: we have found an easy-to-synthesise ligand that induces >90% ee in a wide range of Grignard additions to ketones. The process is stoichiometric but no other additive is needed and the ligand is easily recovered (patent application publishes late Nov 2015).
· De novo synthesis of novel monosaccharides from substituted catechols by asymmetric oxidation. These sugars are potential prostate cancer lead compounds, which we have studied in collaboration with UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research (publication embargoed).
